• Whose First Impression Counts the Most?

Because light travels faster than sound, you are always going to be seen before you are ever heard. Even before uttering a single word, your visual image will say a significant amount about you as an individual–your perceived level of power and success, your intelligence, competence, and your self-esteem and confidence.

    First Impressions

Feeling good about the way you look can make you feel good about yourself.

By now, we’re well aware of the silent messages that your image provides to those you meet. People take their cues from these messages. Besides being an external cue affecting how others respond toward you, your image, what you’re wearing and how you wear it, is also an inner cue affecting your self-image. Feeling good about how you look can make you feel good about yourself, thereby increasing your personal presence.

Interestingly enough, the reality of first impressions lies within each of us. First impressions really start with us. How we dress and look affects our psyche, our thought process, and our self-confidence. The opposite is true when we just don’t feel right about how we’re dressed. The observer meets the ensuing negative energy in kind, potentially causing a further drain to our self-image.

We’ve all experienced the emotional high of knowing a successful clothing selection and when we’ve presented ourselves in a very self-confident way. And we know that validating compliments and supportive comments from others improves our overall energy level and provides an even bigger boost to that “feel good” factor.

Being confidently dressed in a manner that is appropriate for the job or occasion can give you a tremendous feeling of poise that is exhibited to others through your attitude and actions. And what’s critically important to remember is that the opposite is true when we just don’t feel comfortable with how we’re dressed.

Thanks for this; I have always believed this and I thank my mother for inspiring me as a very young little girl. I believe we perform better in our work when we know that we look good. Confidence is everything. We only have one life live it with beauty and care.
Thanks for your note.
I have been with Doncaster and enjoyed your company some time ago at our meeting in Dana Point.

Thanks for pointing out that one’s image works two ways – it gives the person self-confidence and it makes a positive impression on the other individual(s) as well. When you feel professional and successful, you are more likely to be professional and achieve what you’re striving for.
